There is quite a good number of tips for cleaning your wood cabinets. Greasy cabinets is a challenge for most people. And cleaning them without damage seems to be a greater challenge.

I’ll help you take on this challenge though…

Some suggested ingredients include coconut oil, olive oil, vinegar, baking soda, essential oils and hot water. I know some that some people use liquid soap. But the task usually requires more than that.

Here is what you need to know about cleaning your wood cabinets…

You will want to use a cleaning agent that can get rid of the grease.

At least one of the ingredients should be a sanitizer.

Use an oil so that your cabinets will not be left looking all dried out.

You want to avoid using non- drying oils. These are oils that do not harden when exposed to air. Coconut oil and olive oil are non- drying oils. So I would not recommend that you use them on your wood cabinets. They will make your cabinets smell funky after some time.

Drying oils are what I recommend. These become hardened and dry after being exposed to air.  They will make your wood cabinets look shiny and you won’t have to worry about them getting funky.

Drying oils include walnut oil, tung oil, poppy seed oil, linseed oil and perilla oil. You may use one of these oils for your wood cabinets cleaning.

Vinegar is a great cleaner. It can break down the grease and sanitize areas. But it can strip your cabinets of coatings over a period of time. So you might want to hold back your hand on the vinegar.

A better option would be baking soda. But use a very refined type. Large grained baking soda may not be so good for coated wood cabinets.

Hot water may be used to melt grease and a little essential oil for fragrance.

Here is how to use your ingredients…

Mix one part baking soda with one part hot water to scrub your wood cabinets. A little dish soap may be added to the mixture too. You may use a toothbrush or a soft scotch brite. Just make sure you get into the crevices and corners.

After getting rid of the grease,  combine a drying oil of your choice with a drop of essential oil  (for fragrance) and hot/warm water in a spray bottle. Spritz your cabinets with this mixture and rub with a soft cloth.

That is it! Your cabinets should now be shiny and clean. And smell really good to.
